myo-Inositol trispyrophosphate (ITPP) is a membrane-permeant allosteric effector of hemoglobin. ITPP can cross the plasma membrane of red blood cells and reduces the oxygen-binding affinity of hemoglobin, thereby promoting oxygen release.
