Bt3-Ins(1,3,5)P3/PM is a membrane-permeant, bioactivatable derivative of myo-inositol 1,3,5-trisphosphate (Ins(1,3,5)P3).
The negatively charged phosphate groups are masked by propionoxymethyl (PM) ester groups, while additional butyryl ester groups increase lipophilicity and facilitate cellular uptake. Following entry into cells, intracellular esterases cleave the ester groups, enabling intracellular delivery of the corresponding inositol trisphosphate.
Membrane-permeant Bt3-Ins(1,3,5)P3 derivatives have been used as IP3 receptor agonists to investigate intracellular Ca²⁺ mobilization and Ca²⁺ oscillations in intact cells. Bt3-Ins(1,3,5)P3/PM is suitable for studies of IP3 receptor-dependent signaling, intracellular calcium signaling and cellular responses to elevated intracellular inositol trisphosphate.
