Bt3-Ins(3,4,6)P3/AM is a membrane-permeant, bioactivatable derivative of myo-inositol 3,4,6-trisphosphate (Ins(3,4,6)P3).
The negatively charged phosphate groups are masked by acetoxymethyl (AM) ester groups, while additional butyryl ester groups increase lipophilicity and facilitate cellular uptake. Following entry into cells, intracellular esterases cleave the ester groups, enabling intracellular delivery of the corresponding inositol trisphosphate.
Ins(3,4,6)P3 is a naturally occurring inositol trisphosphate and an intermediate in inositol phosphate metabolism. It can serve as a substrate for inositol-trisphosphate 1-kinase (ITPK1), generating Ins(1,3,4,6)P4. Bt3-Ins(3,4,6)P3/AM is therefore suitable for cellular studies of inositol phosphate metabolism and for comparative studies of the biological activity and positional specificity of inositol trisphosphate isomers.
